FORENSIC DOCUMENT EXAMINATION / QUESTIONED DOCUMENT EXAMINATION
A Forensic Document Examiner is a scientist who uses scientific and technical methods, along with laboratory equipment, aiming to determine the identity of the author, by comparing a supplied genuine sample with the document in question.
A FDE can identify the authenticity of the document or the potential forgery, alterations and overall its origins.
A Forensic Document Examiner might perform the following:
- Compare the handwriting and signature of the questioned documents with confirmed genuine samples of the author
- Examine the questioned document for signs of forgery
- Decipher damaged or partialy distroyed documents
- Identify the use of a single or several inks in the document by applying UV and IR filters and exposing the handwriting to side lighting
- Examine the paper, ink and handwriting
